  • Knowledgeable in many firing techniques, including electric, gas, raku, salt/soda, and wood-fired anagama; includes proper loading and unloading of kilns, as well as student safety.

  • Teaching skills include courses in 2-D and 3-D Design, Art Appreciation, Ceramics, Sculpture, Senior Research and Senior Project; also include student mentoring and Art Club advising.

  • 2013 One-day Ceramics Workshop, Presenter. University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL. A single day of demonstration for the ceramics students in the University of Alabama’s Art Department. Hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques were demonstrated.

  • 2013 One-day Ceramics Workshop, Presenter. Mississippi University for Women, Columbus, MS. A single day of lecture and demonstration for the ceramics students inthe University’s Art Dept. Demonstrated wheel-throwing techniques.

  • 2010 Donna Craven Kiln Construction, Technical Assistant. Seagrove, NC. Assisted Shane Mickey and Will Baker in the construction of a large Groundhog inspired kiln. The kiln, which measures 20’ long, 6’ wide, and 6’ high, is the primary kiln used by Craven to fire her wares.

  • 2009 Ian Childers and Micah Cain: Workshop and Lecture, Presenter. University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa AL. In collaboration with the Department of Art and Art History, Ian and I presented a gallery show and lecture in the Ferguson Gallery; as well as a day of critiquing undergraduate and graduate artwork, and a one-day collaborative ceramics workshop.

  • 2005 - 2006 Graduate Lab Assistant Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA. Ernest G. Welch School of Art

  • 2004 Project Anagama, constructed wood-fired kiln Shorter College, Rome, GA. Created the proposal that would facilitate the building of an anagama Japanese style kiln on the Shorter College campus. Implemented the project in cooperation with a professor and fellow student. Worked within a budget, secured materials, and built the structure. This kiln is still used to date.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • 2019 - Present Clover Pick A Bowl Fill A Bowl, Pensacola, FL. Each year, I lead Pensacola State College Visual Arts students in making and finishing handmade ceramic bowls that are donated to Manna Food Pantries for their annual Clover Pick A Bowl Fill A Bowl fundraising event.

  • 2018 Elm Street Elementary, Rome, GA. Provided art lessons for third-grade students as part of a program that matches students with specific areas of interest.

  • 2017 - 2018 Empty Bowls Committee, Co-chair, Rome, GA.

  • 2011 - 2018 Empty Bowls Annual Benefit, Donating Artist, Rome, GA. Annually work with ceramics students and local artists to create and donate hundreds of ceramic bowls to this event, in order to benefit charitable organizations.

  • 2012 - 2018 Arnold Art Gallery, Shorter University, Rome, GA. Assisted with the installation of numerous professional artist and student exhibits.
